Who are we?
Following a number of exhaustive meetings and
discussions on the current precarious situation in Eritrea, a number of
Eritreans residing in London and its surrounding agreed to set up an
organisation called Eritreans for Human and Democratic
Rights - UK (EHDR-UK) at their meeting of 13 January 2002.
The participants represented a good cross-section of our society and
agreed to set up the organisation with a Mission
Statement consistent with the United Nations Universal
Declaration of Human Rights.
The founding members agreed that EHDR-UK would promote its
people-first belief and decided to set the stage for various human and
democratic rights activities.
EHDR-UK
conducts its campaigns through educational seminars, letter writing,
debates and networking with various national and
international organizations, associations, groups and individuals engaged
in promoting human rights protection.
The
goal of EHDR-UK is to raise people’s awareness of the existence of the
various schools of thought, disciplines and doctrines interlaced with
people’s basic rights.
EHDR-UK also works towards fostering a sense of duty,
responsibility and respect towards one’s self and other people; and
provide an environment for open discussion in regards to the function of
human and democratic rights of Eritreans in accordance to prominent
doctrines and declarations.
We
welcome everyone to join our organisation provided he/she endorses our
mission and embarks on our peaceful campaign for the human and democratic
rights of Eritreans.
