PRESS RELEASE
EHDR-UK
Meetings within the UK
 |
EHDR-UK has started
touring the United Kingdom to introduce the organisation to Eritrean
communities residing outside London and to spread the struggle for
the respect of human rights in Eritrea. The other purpose of the
trip was to empower Eritreans in Diaspora to be active participants
in the affairs of the country. The first seminar was held in Leeds
on Sunday 26 February 2006 where around 60 Eritreans from the Leeds
area and its environs participated. Members of EHDR-UK Executive
Committee introduced the organisation, its principal aims
&objectives and then showed a short video about its activities
over the last few years. |
| The rest of
the time was taken in discussing human rights and the
responsibilities and duties of citizens in challenging the abuses
that are currently taking place in Eritrea. Asylum and other
pertinent issues were also discussed.Following the lengthy
discussion, the participants decided to set up a West Yorkshire
branch of EHDR-UK and elected three people as temporary co-ordinators
of the branch.

meeting was held in Nottingham on Saturday 15 April 2006 where over
50 Eritreans participated. The afternoon was organised in the same
way where following presentation by the Executive Committee of
EHDR-UK, the floor was open for discussion on organisational and
human rights issues.
|
| The participants recognised the work that
EHDR-UK has been doing over the years and pledged to contribute in any way
they that they can to stop the deteriorating human rights situation in
Eritrea. Following the discussion, three people were elected to act as co-ordinators
